As we all adapt to new norms during this season, it’s normal to question whether we are still living the same quality of life as we did before. Specifically as we adapt in the medical community, it’s expected for patients to ask whether the virtual treatments are as effective as the in-clinic ones they were receiving before.

We can say with certainty that telehealth physical therapy is just as effective as in-clinic physical therapy, and both options can help you reach your recovery goals.

What to expect during a telehealth physical therapy appointment

The key to understanding how telehealth physical therapy can benefit you is to understand what to expect during your appointment. Telehealth physical therapy is a virtual PT session that allows you to connect with your physical therapist via a secured video platform. Prior to your appointment, you will receive an email with instructions on how to sign in to the video platform for your session.

Be sure to have the following ready before your virtual physical therapy appointment begins:

  • A good internet connection
  • A device with internet connection and video capabilities
  • A device charger and outlet nearby
  • Space in your home for exercises and movement
  • Comfortable clothes and supportive shoes

Once you sign in, your physical therapist will walk you through different exercises to help strengthen the muscles surrounding the damaged area of your body, and movements to help improve your range of motion and mobility. By connecting via video, your physical therapist will be able to correct your form during movements the same way as if you were in the clinic with us.

Each session will help you stay on track toward your recovery goals, whether those are to return to the golf course, pick up your grandchildren or simply walk the dog without pain.
